The confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah fall under the jurisdiction of ambulance and rescue departments of Frederick County, Maryland (Brunswick Volunteer Ambulance); Jefferson County, West Virginia (Independent Fire Company Swift Water Rescue, located in Ranson, West Virginia); and Loudoun County, Virginia (Lucketts, VA Volunteer Fire Company).
These volunteer fire and rescue departments maintain water rescue craft, and are responsible for a 10 mile stretch of the Potomac River, between Charlestown West Virginia and the Point of Rocks bridge.
